Lighting Director Limited provides lighting services for the television industry and is run by double award winning Lighting Director, Andy Stagles. Andy is a multi camera Television Lighting Director with over 28 years experience Lighting in Studios, locations, theatres, arenas and Outside broadcasts.

In 2018, Andy became the first person to win 2 “Knight of illumination awards” in one year. Andy won the award for Live events (for the Mobo awards 2017 – Avanti media) and the awards for small productions (for Songs of Praise – Avanti Media and Nine Lives).

“I am lucky enough to work on a varied range of program genre’s, and I am thrilled to have won 2 lighting awards! I relish new challenges and I am always looking for new ideas”.

April 2024

April saw us lighting a PSC record at Dogs Trust, Basildon. A studio was created in the dog training area of the Dogs trust and we lit it with LED Softlights, LED profile spots and LED battery Lights.

We were able to light the studio from the buildings 13 amp sockets!

12 Arri Sky panel S60C’s have just been prepped and loaded to go on a Location shoot in Basildon for the next few days and then Maidstone Studios until mid May.

We have Sky Panels S60C’s, Gemini 2×1 Softs and battery powered Astra Panels, LED Pars, LED Moving Wash Lights, VL1100 LED’s, LED Martin Mac Encore CLD Performances, LED Miltec batten’s, LED Colour dash’s, LED battery powered uplights and lots more going out on Jobs in April! Details to follow!

March 2024:

Andy was the lighting director for this years “Can I Gymru” (Song for Wales), produced by Afanti Media for S4C. Can I Gymru was a 116 minute live broadcast from Swansea Arena. LRUK provided over 150 moving lights for the rig, as well as the associated power and data distribution.

“It was great fun to design a 1 off televised live event in the arena and I am really pleased with the outcome”.

March saw Andy as the Lighting Director in Formby and Wigan for the BBC’s Songs of Praise. CTVC produce the program for the BBC.

“I have been the Lighting Director for Songs of Praise for over 6 years now. Its a privilege to work on Songs of Praise in such amazing buildings around the country”.

March has also seen Andy as the LD  for University Challenge again. University Challenge is recorded in HQ4 at Dock 10, Mediacity, Salford, and its made for the BBC by Lifted entertainment. LRUK Have provided moving and LED lights including Martin Mac Encore’s, LED batterns and LED par cans.

February 2024:

Andy and the team have just finished Lighting a new series of Jonathan for S4C (https://www.s4c.cymru/en/entertainment/jonathan/). We recorded 5 Programmes in the new Afanti Studio in Cardiff. Andy has been the Studio Lighting Director for “Jonathan” since 2016 in 3 studios and 2 locations in Wales and France. LRUK provided all of the lighting and power equipment including Distribution, LED Panels, LED RGB strip, LED pars, LED Battens, profile spots and fresnels.

February also saw Andy as the Lighting Director for the BBC’s University Challenge.

January 2024

January started bright and early with BBC One’s Morning Live. Andy has been the Lighting Director for the live television program since its move to Manchester. Morning Live’s home is run by Versa studios in Manchester. It is a full LED Rig and it is on BBC1 from 0930 to 1045 every week day.
